The Fusion Energy Boondoggle

According to this report, private fusion research is picking up:

But according to this one, over $24 billion has been spent with little to show for it:

Something to keep in mind: The inventor of our modern electrical system, Nikola Tesla, believed that electricity should be provided to mankind free of charge. The powers that be disagreed then, and they still do.

Do you really think that people like Jeff Bezos, Paul Allen, the Rockefellers, or Peter Thiel will give us free (or even cheap) electricity if they ever get fusion to work? If you do, you are nuts.
