Our Authoritarian President

We are very likely to get an authoritarian president next year. Here is why:

Nearly the entire media (including most conservative commentators), all of academia, and most corporate leaders would resist Trump's efforts to curb the freedom of the press, circumvent due process and revive "Operation Wetback." Trump probably wouldn't have the follow-through, the knowledge or the institutional support even to get these initiatives off the ground.

Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, may well have the skills, the dedication and the elite support in her efforts to crack down on the free exercise of religion, the right to bear arms, the freedom to join with other citizens in criticizing politicians and due process of the law.

Although Trump has been called a fascist, the REAL fascist in this campaign is Hillary Clinton:

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power."
Benito Mussolini

In case you had not noticed, Hillary is the darling of global corporations. Her reign at the State Department, during which she mingled the activities of governments, corporations, banks, sheiks and kings, NGOs, and various and sundry racketeers was a veritable textbook exercise on how to built and operate an all-encompassing fascist organization.

As to the claim that she will have a mandate to crack down on dissent, that is right on the money. And do not forget the German people chose and supported Hitler for the very reason that he promised to throw troublemakers and dissenters in jail.

People choose a dictator because they LOVE him or her at first and YEARN for him or her to crack down on THEIR enemies. It's only later when he or she comes after THEM that they change their minds:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Martin Niemöller

By that point, as Niemöller observed, it's always too late.

We are on the brink of an authoritarian abyss. Please don't drag the rest of us into it.
