Bizarre Climate Change Claim Of The Day

Under current global emission rates, the statement warns, the world is “currently on a path to around 4°C warming by 2100, which would create unmanageable environmental challenges.” And if dramatic action is not taken, it continues, there exists a 10% chance of reaching a 6°C rise in which tipping points could hurl the planet towards catastrophic climate scenarios. “As a comparison,” the signatories warn, “such a 1 in 10 probability is the equivalent of tolerating about 10,000 airplane crashes every day worldwide.”

How in the world did they come up with THAT number?

There were an estimated 20,000 airplanes in 2013, and there may be as many as 35,000 by 2033:

This means the 10,000 crashes per day would be over in 3.5 days, so it doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

By the way, keeping that much fossil fuel in the ground will itself have disastrous consequences for our way of life. No energy = greatly curtained travel. No energy = greatly reduced fertilizer for growing food. No energy = people freezing to death in winter.

What the climate change geniuses have in mind is a world in which we useless eaters have no right to or way to buy energy ... but in which the George Clooneys and Leonardo DiCaprios will be able to fly far above our heads on the way to their next parties as often as they please.

Funk dat!
