Kill The Messenger

Yesterday I watched the DVD version of "Kill The Messenger" about journalist Gary Webb, his series "Dark Alliance", and America's destruction of one of the last great investigative journalists in the world.

I think the movie probably was a realistic portrayal of some of what happened, and I highly recommend it.

However, I want to point out that late in the film, a map was displayed which purported to show the routes by which cocaine was brought into the US from Central and South America. The map failed to show that Mena, Arkansas was one of the transhipment points, when according to some sources (including Webb himself) it was:

Reporter Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News alleged that when Bill Clinton was governor, Mena, Arkansas was a CIA airport Drop Location. During the Clinton presidential administration (1993-2001), there were accusations ... that Clinton, during his time as governor of Arkansas, and other high-ranking state officials were involved in some way with illegal cocaine importation, money laundering, and drug use centered upon the airport in Mena. These allegations have been disputed by several different investigations, including one by the Banking Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The allegations about money laundering involved the Arkansas Development Finance Authority, which Bill Clinton controlled as governor. I listened to the accuser when he made the allegations, and they sounded quite believable. But nothing ever came of it.

Was the failure to mention Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham (a.k.a. Clinton to some of you) in "Kill The Messenger" an attempt to shield them and others from the justice which has so far eluded them?

That would be my guess.

Some of our history will never be told. Ever.

Q: By the way, how could the government (including the House Banking Committee) NOT find evidence of money laundering when drug money is flowing from the US economy to the cartels like a dozen out-of-control fire hoses?

A: My guess is that someone made them an offer they couldn't refuse: plata o plomo.
