China Launches Nicaraguan Canal

The $50 billion China-backed Nicaraguan Canal project is getting underway:

So much for the "Monroe Doctrine". Maybe funding the Contras and the "Asian pivot" weren't such good ideas after all.

When was the last time the US launched a big construction project like this? Lately all we have been doing is dropping bombs on people.

Update: To answer my own last question, one of the last big US construction projects is the Highway 99 tunnel project in Seattle. The primary boring machine broke down and got stuck over a year ago, and efforts to burrow down to fix and/or retrieve it have caused buildings and other structures to sink into the earth. In other words, things have not gone well:

In case you had not noticed, ever since "thriving on chaos" and "the seven habits of highly effective people" were sold to a gullible business community, the US has lost the ability to get things done. Gee, I wonder why.
