Renewable Energy Cannot Stop Climate Change

So says this recent study at Stanford University:

Renewable energy sources are unreliable and too expensive, say Stanford researchers. Even if you develop renewable technologies, they can not stop climate change with security. To halt the excessive accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere, it requires completely new technologies.

Should this be the case, development and implementation of "completely new technologies" sounds expensive and time consuming. Where will the money come from to accomplish such a thing?

It looks like we may have to live with climate change for a while, at least until these "new technologies" come about:

One thing we all can do to help is to stop using Google so frequently. Although Google claims to have a zero carbon footprint, they allegedly achieve this status only by relying on "renewable energy", which in light of the Stanford study appears to be a bogus way to add things up:
