Fukushima's Children Are Dying

Interesting report on the fallout from the Fukushima nuclear disaster. I disagree with much of what the author says about Three Mile Island, but the rest seems valid:

Some 39 months after the multiple explosions at Fukushima, thyroid cancer rates among nearby children have skyrocketed to more than forty times (40x) normal. More than 48 percent of some 375,000 young people--nearly 200,000 kids--tested by the Fukushima Medical University near the smoldering reactors now suffer from pre-cancerous thyroid abnormalities, primarily nodules and cysts. The rate is accelerating.

Nuclear power is one of the worst ideas ever conceived.

One good thing, though: The nuclear industry in the US is dead. The government infrastructure has crumbled, the industries which made nuclear equipment (especially the heavy stuff) are long gone, and university programs which trained the engineers and workers are defunct. If nuclear ever comes back to life in the US, it will be with foreign investment, talent, and ownership.
