Water is more valuable than oil

I had almost forgotten something until this article reminded me of it:

The headwaters of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers are in Turkey, Iraq, and Syria. Israel needs and wants that water. I suspect that many people will die in Syria and in Iraq so that they can have it.

The theft of that water does not directly threaten America, so we won't get directly involved. But make no mistake, sooner or later we'll get dragged into that mess, too:

And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.
Revelation 16:12 KJV

Kings of the east? Perhaps China, whom we are also messing with? And you still think we're not in the End Times?

Other thoughts about water in that region:
  • A while back there were news stories that Turkey was going to sell the water to Israel, to be delivered by a new pipeline  going through Cyprus.
  • If you'll recall, one of the recent African hot spots predating the Arab Spring was Sudan. The headwaters of the Nile flow through Sudan on their way to Egypt.
  • Once the Nile flows into the Mediterranean Sea, it more or less belongs to everyone. The Israeli presence in the Sinai (during the Yom Kippur War) would have allowed them to construct an underground aqueduct to channel Nile water across the Sinai Desert to Israel (a distance of 100 miles or so). It would have been a difficult but not impossible task. Would you care to wager on whether or not they have done it?
